23rd Northwest Oklahoma/Southern Kansas
This chase report could have easily been about busting
due to my inability to stick with my own forecast. I left
Leavenworth, KS at 7am and reached my initial data
stop
Liberal, KS at 1:30pm. Several attempts at accessing
Wi-Fi were unsuccessful due to errors with my Wi-Fi card.
I need to thank chasers Lindsey Butor and Michael Gribble
who were at the same
motel parking lot and let me use their computer for a quick
check data. Based largely on the SPC meso-analysis I was
very happy with location. I did however note that my friends
Eric Nguyen and Amos Magliocco chose a
target south of
Shamrock,
TX where many chasers on the various forums were targeting.
Lindsey and Michael moments later decided that they wanted
to go further south to
Canadian, TX. Now sitting alone in the parking lot
without any data I was hearing little voices in head saying
“You’re going to miss a big event,” You’re going to bust,”
“What, do you really think you are smarter than everyone
else?” The voices eventually got to me and I tore out of
Liberal heading south. With Liberal in my rearview mirror I
could hear new voices in my head, “Now you’re really going
to bust,” “Why are you leaving?” and “Haven’t you
learned this lesson before?” Five miles south of Liberal I
turned around and went back to the motel parking lot and
vowed not to leave until I had a real, logical reason to
leave. That
logical reason to leave occurred within the hour in the form
of rapidly developing storms two counties away in the E OK PHL.
