June 6th Western Missouri

I intercepted two supercells in western Missouri. The supercells formed on a slow moving coldfront will strong instability (2500-3500 CAPE) on both sides of the front.  Flow was weak with 5kt west wind at the surface and 30 kt WNW flow at 500mb.

After struggling for some time this cell developed a wallcloud with modest rotation near Dover, MO.

This horizontal vortex at the RFD/updraft interface lasted about two minutes and preceded several short-lived funnels.

2 miles NW of Higginsville, MO a funnel with moderate rotation lasted lasted 5 minutes.

The funnel lasted from 8:40 to 8:45 PM.

I intercepted the second supercell near Holden, MO.

This supercell produced what appeared to be a large cone-shaped funnel (not pictured) 1 mile west of Holden, MO.

Cloud-to-Air lightning.
