09/22/06  Central Missouri

Today was a bust because nothing happened in central Missouri and I didn't have time to go after the tornadic supercells in southern and southeastern Missouri. I ended up driving to central Missouri, deciding it was a lost cause, then turning around and driving home.

09/16/06  Southeast South Dakota

By far my best chase of 2006.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles 1003

08/02/06  Northeast Kansas/Northwest Missouri

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 43

07/13/06  Northeast Kansas/Western Missouri

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 64

08/10/06  Northeast Kansas

I observed a few lightning strikes from of a weak HP Supercell.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 90

06/21/06  Northern Kansas

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 344

06/20/06  Western Iowa/Southern Nebraska

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 882

06/17/06  Northern Kansas/Southern Nebraska

I targeted the pseudo cold-core setup in S NE.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 346

06/10/06  Northwest Missouri

Another bust. I attempted to intercept a supercell in the Kansas City metro around 11:30 PM but the cell weakened before I got to it. A second supercell formed about an 60 miles north of Kansas City shortly after the first one died. Unfortunately, a low cloud deck made it impossible to see any structure on this cell.

06/09/06  Western Iowa

BUST!

This image is blurry but it doesn't matter because there isn't any thing worth seeing.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 512

06/06/06  Western Missouri

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 675

06/05/06  Southeast South Dakota

What an ugly painful bust! I missed a tornadic supercell that formed NW of my early morning target of Mitchell, SD. Unfortunately I talked my self out of that target because the RUC veered the surface winds at 0Z.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 657

05/31/06  East Central Colorado

Hail core just off the front-range of the Rockies.

Dying LP south of Colorado Springs, CO.

Chase Partner: Mike Currens   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 1125

05/30/06  Southeast Colorado/Oklahoma Panhandle

Chase Partner: Mike Currens   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 499

05/29/06  Southern Kansas

Chase Partner: Mike Currens   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 382

May 23rd Southeast South Dakota

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 900

May 8th Northern Kansas

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 430

April 24th Northern Oklahoma/Southern Kansas

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 540

April 18th Northwest Missouri

Awesome storm structure, tennisball sized hail, and manageable storm speeds made for my most enjoyable chase of the early season.

Looking south through the highest reflectivity core, I thought the storm was dieing. Turns out the core was all hail so you could see right through it.

Looking west from Chillicothe.

This occluded meso rapped in rain looked quite suspicious at times with low-contrast lowerings and cone shaped funnels.

With the storm approaching Chillicothe I call the NWS and reported the large cone rapped in rain, as possible tornado 3 west of Chillicothe.  A few minutes later golf ball hail began falling on the west side of town so I repositioned, not wanting to brake a widow this early in the season.

On my way home after the chase a caller to a radio station said the measured 7-1/4 inch diameter hail on the SW side of Chillicothe.

April 15th Southeast Nebraska/Northwest Missouri/Northeast Kansas

Supercell near Burchard, NE

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 275

April 11th Northeast Kansas

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 22

April 6th Central/Eastern Nebraska

Despite observing at least three tornadoes near Clay Center, KS this was a very frustrating day.  Storm motions were way to fast and none of the tornadoes I observed condensed to the ground.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10    Miles: 467

April 1st Southern Kansas

Supercells and tornadoes, April fools! I left Kansas City thinking Supercells and a few tornadoes would be possible from SW Kansas through NW Texas. At Wichita I checked the surface observations which reveled major moisture problems. 85/56 in the warm sector was more that enough to turn me around and send me home.

This traffic jam leaving Kansas City was the highlight of my chase.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles: 488

March 30th Northeast Kansas

I observed several linear outflow-dominant thunderstorms.

This thunderstorm eventually produced a tornado North of St. Joseph, MO.

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles: 167

March 12th Western/Central Missouri

March 8th Northwest Missouri

Scott Blair's naked chase vehicle and a developing storm.

The thunderstorms that developed today were low-topped and high-based. Not a good combination!

Chase Partner: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles: 389

March 7th Southern Kansas/Northern Oklahoma

Chase Partner: Scott Blair   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles: 420

January 28th Northern Kansas

Chase Partners: Solo   Vehicle: Chevy S-10   Miles: 230
